Ask a concierge: Singapore

What to do and where to dine in Singapore.

At Grand Park Orchard, concierge Redzuan Mohamed draws on eight years of experience assisting guests with personal services. This includes transport arrangements, ticket purchase to places of attraction and recommend the best sights, activities and getting around the city. Here he offers expert advice for business travellers.

What should business travellers have on hand when visiting your city?

A smartphone, or any mobile device with updated mobile apps, is useful as a guide on what you can do, where to dine and places to explore in the city. Visit the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) website for a list of recommended travel guide apps to download. At Grand Park Orchard, we’ve placed a smartphone in every guestroom. It’s updated with a comprehensive STB-certified guide and offer free mobile data, local and IDD calls to selected countries.

What are your top restaurant recommendations for a business lunch or dinner?

For lunch, enjoy a 4-course Cantonese set lunch accompanied with artisanal cocktails at Mitzo Restaurant & Bar (270 Orchard Rd., Level 4 Grand Park Hotel Singapore 238857; Ph: +65 6603 8855). Located in the vibrant city center, Mitzo is the place to impress your business associates with its dramatic yet modern design aesthetic.

For dinner, I’d recommend dining at Sky on 57 (Sands SkyPark, Tower 1, Level 57; Ph: +65 6688 8857) with an unforgettable panoramic view of Singapore’s night skyline. Sky on 57 showcases modern interpretation of Franco Asian cuisine helmed by celebrity chef, Justin Quek.

What’s something that surprises guests about your city or hotel?

Singapore is a multi-cultural society with a wide range of cuisines from Michelin-star restaurants to local street food flavours, providing a gastronomical experience for every palate.

Besides the abundant food options, Singapore is also a famed retail paradise. Grand Park Orchard is strategically located in the heart of Orchard Road and our guests have unlimited dining, entertainment and shopping choice right at the doorstep. We provide complimentary hourly shuttle service to Clarke Quay and to City Hall, where it’s very accessible to attractions and places of interest such as the Marina Bay area.

If business travellers only have a few hours for leisure, what must they see?

Take the Hop-On Hop-Off tour bus to experience the city and soak up the sights. The tour takes you through heritage areas like Chinatown and Little India, you can explore Bugis Village and Marina Bay, and visit a multitude of attractions. It’s a quick way to get the uniquely Singapore experience.

What’s the best option for outdoor exercise?

Visit Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, conveniently located within walking distance from Grand Park Orchard. Take time to stroll around the Gardens and enjoy the spectacular landscape of tropical flora and greenery
