Research Snapshot: COVID-19 – the resumption of business travel

The return of domestic travel is already well under way, but international travel will be slower to resume.

  • Domestic travel has resumed more quickly than international, with 34% of travelers already making domestic trips, compared to 14% for international.
  • By the end of 2021, 81% of travelers expect to be regularly making domestic trips, compared to 44% for international travel.
  • Travel restrictions are likely to be as much of a factor as intent in delaying the resumption of international business trips.
  • International trips should pick up momentum during the final quarter of 2021, accelerating in Q1 2022.
