Istanbul Airport, the world’s newest aviation center and home to Turkish Airlines, operates flights from Turkey to more than 350 destinations worldwide. Open since October 2018, the airport can accommodate an annual passenger capacity of 90 million in its first phase. Upon completion, capacity will reach 200 million passengers. The airport’s thoughtful design promises maximum comfort and minimum waiting periods for visitors.
Award-winning design
Istanbul Airport’s terminal design took its inspiration from the city’s deep-rooted cultural heritage. The design of the duty-free area was influenced by Turkey’s Bosphorus waterway. Representative of one of Istanbul’s symbolic motifs, the tulip-shaped air traffic control tower earned a Chicago Athenaeum 2016 International Architecture Award for its design.
Technologies to facilitate the travel experience
Passenger information kiosks, robots, self-check-in and baggage drop points help speed up pre-departure tasks. Biometric access doors, flight information screens and automated boarding gates also help facilitate passenger journeys. Post flight, passengers can check their baggage delivery wait time on monitors in the arrival hall.
Enjoyable moments awaiting passengers at Istanbul Airport
Throughout the airport, passengers can enjoy unique shopping experiences or relax in spaces designed for ultimate comfort. Dining options include a host of cafes and restaurants, including international brands new in the market.
