Tuneful trend: Meetings migrate to music cities

Cool meeting spaces, entertainment lure conferences to Nashville and Austin.

Music cities are hitting the right note for meeting buyers, as business travel consultancy Advito explains in its 2017 Industry Forecast.

Nashville is becoming one of the most in-demand destinations for meetings—drawing business away from larger, more expensive cities. A revitalized downtown and new 1.2 million-square-foot Music City Center combine with its unique musical heritage to make it a strong draw. The 800-room Omni Nashville has been extremely popular since opening in 2013 and was recently joined by a new Westin property. JW Marriott will move to the city in 2017.

Not far behind is Austin, which has built on the prestige of its South by Southwest Conference & Festivals to become a year-round conference destination. A 1,012-room JW Marriott opened in the Texas capital in 2015 and will be joined next year by a 1,068-room Fairmont with 106,000 square feet of meetings space.
