City guide: Singapore

Singapore, a once-modest fishing village, now boasts a global reputation for multi-culturalism, a thriving economy and future-forward ideals. From skyscrapers to world-famous street food to the rainforest, this Asian city-state has much to offer business travelers.

Getting to and from the airport

Singapore’s international Changi Airport is one of Asia’s largest transportation hubs. The airport is a destination in itself – with beautiful and artful spaces and installations, including an Arrivals Garden, Canopy Bridge, crystal installations, a large-scale interactive slide (yes, a slide), and a maze.

A one-way fare is about. Single-ride tickets and EZ-link cards can be purchased at all train stations.

Taxis are available for hire at the taxi stands in the Arrival areas of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. A ride to the city takes about 30 minutes and costs between $US14.67 – $US29.35. All fares are metered.

Getting around the city

Singapore’s efficient transportation system of buses, rail and taxis ensures most journeys are hassle-free. Fares vary by destination, but average about US$1.60. If you’re staying in Singapore awhile, consider picking up an EZ-Link pass. This contactless card offers quick and cash-free transactions on the MRT (subway), LRT (light rail) and buses.

Alternatively, you can opt for the Singapore Tourist Pass which offers unlimited train and bus rides for US$7.08a day. You must pay an additional US$7.08 deposit which is refunded when you return the pass within five days of purchasing.

Taxis are fairly inexpensive and Singapore’s compactness helps keep trips short. Fares are metered. Ridesharing services are provided by Grab Superapp.
