Corporate travel is one of the world’s most powerful yet often overlooked industries. It’s a multibillion-dollar engine that quietly powers the global economy–connecting professionals, enabling innovation, and supporting sectors from life sciences to media and entertainment. Yet for many students and early-career professionals, the job opportunities are unknown.
Jorge Cruz, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, is helping change that. On October 16, Jorge will join a special student-only panel discussion at the inaugural Business Travel Show America in New York City. The session, Exploring Career Paths in Corporate Travel, is designed specifically for students attending Business Travel Show America through the Business Travel Show America Student Scholarship Program. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at the diverse and dynamic opportunities within our industry.
From travel management companies (TMCs) and suppliers to technology, sustainability, and service roles–and even in-house positions as corporate travel managers or program leaders within global organizations–corporate travel offers a wide range of career paths that go far beyond the traditional image of travel agents. Students will leave the session understanding how they can make a meaningful impact in a field that’s constantly evolving–and why the industry needs their fresh perspectives now.
“I’m really looking forward to the session for many reasons,” Jorge said, “but primarily because it’s an opportunity to provide real-life insight to those just starting their journey. It’s also a great opportunity to give back by spending time with future leaders who will carry the torch.”
Corporate travel careers: The industry students don’t know they’re missing
While travel agents remain essential to keeping business travelers moving, the corporate travel ecosystem is vast. From program management and technology development to solutions engineering, travel risk management, and marketing, it takes a varied talent pool to deliver seamless travel experiences. And, the industry is evolving rapidly–with new technology, sustainability goals, and shifting traveler expectations creating demand for fresh perspectives and new skill sets.

“Most roles will require excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and relationship building,” Jorge said. “A can-do attitude, passion for development, and constant learning will serve the next generation well.” These qualities are just as vital for corporate travel managers who oversee programs inside their organizations as they are for those supporting clients from the TMC or supplier side.
Forward-thinking talent
The future of corporate travel depends on strong, forward-thinking talent–both within travel management companies and on the client side, where corporate travel managers shape policy, supplier strategy, and traveler experience. Hospitality programs often focus on leisure travel, leaving corporate travel underrepresented in academic settings. That’s why events like this panel are so important–they shine a light on the real-world impact of business travel and the rewarding careers it offers.
“For me, it’s knowing that you’re making a difference,” Jorge said. “We provide corporate travel services to key companies and sectors that have a significant impact on the globe–Life Sciences, Aerospace & Defense (A&D), Energy, Resources & Marine (ERM), Media & Entertainment, Professional Services–it’s incredibly fulfilling.”
Whether on the client side or within a travel management company, the next generation of professionals will play a key role in shaping how businesses move the world forward.
