Proyecto Daniel: Empowering youth through support and education
In San José, Costa Rica, Proyecto Daniel works with adolescents and young adults fighting cancer. Through their pillars of Recreation, Education, and Accompaniment, the organization helps patients aged 13 to 25 by providing emotional, social, and educational support. Whether it’s hosting engaging activities or offering scholarships to ensure academic continuity, Proyecto Daniel is a lifeline for many young people navigating the most challenging time of their lives.
BCD Costa Rica’s Connecting Hands group has teamed up with Proyecto Daniel; in May, Valeria Monge Kolodin, a BCD system technician, hosted a hands-on workshop teaching teens how to build computers from scratch. What started as a fun challenge turned into a truly inspiring moment as the teens succeeded in their task, building confidence and exploring potential career paths.
Anything is possible
“The teens were amazing. They showed they could tackle a complex project without any prior experience, proving to themselves that anything is possible. Their determination and joy made this a rewarding day for all of us,” Monge said.
Proyecto Daniel’s work, combined with the support from BCD, is helping these young people focus on their futures and move forward with hope and resilience.
Accept Society: Providing vital care in Bangalore
Accept Society in Bangalore, India, has for 24 years served some of the most vulnerable members of the community. A government-recognized charity, Accept provides medical care, counseling, and support to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, including orphaned children and elderly residents.
Employees from BCD’s Shared Service Center (SSC) in Bangalore partnered with Accept to improve living conditions at their care center. Volunteers spend their weekends assisting in various ways, from cleaning the center and providing companionship to digitizing records and teaching computer literacy to the children. Accept also is contributing to critical infrastructure upgrades like installing lifts and building roads – to enhance mobility for wheelchair users and improve the day-to-day lives of the children and elderly at the facility.
Nayamathulla Sharieff, BCD Information Technology manager, who introduced the cause to the team, said, “Helping Accept aligns with everything BCD stands for. We are a company that believes in doing what’s right and giving back, and this project embodies those values. We’re proud to be part of something that makes such a tangible difference.”
