The U.S. Department of State updated its visa application forms to require additional information – including social media identifiers used within the previous five years – for most U.S. visa applicants, both immigrant and non-immigrant. The requirement is for new visa applicants only.
International travelers using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) are not required to provide social media identifiers but do have the option to share the information.
A social media identifier or handle is any name used by a person on social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The updated visa application forms list the specific social media platforms for which identifiers are being requested.
