The power of work: Changing lives
Finding a job is crucial for refugees looking to build a new life away from their homes. However, the job search can be hindered by limited networks, language barriers, and difficulties in having their qualifications recognized. To address these challenges, BCD has joined Tent, a new coalition dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for qualified refugees and displaced talent in the Netherlands.
During the April launch of the Tent Nederland Country Coalition, Paul Polman challenged over 100 business leaders with the question: “Is the world a better place because your company is in it?” Our answer: We’re working on it.
As part of Tent, we participated in a refugee job fair organized by Indeed and the Tent Partnership for Refugees, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Nederland. The event took place at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam and is part of Tent’s broader effort to connect major employers with refugee job seekers across Europe and the United States. Since last year, Tent has co-hosted 20 job fairs, including events in London, Berlin, and Amsterdam, bringing nearly 3,000 refugees together with global e-commerce, logistics, and hotel brands. These events help bridge the gap between refugees eager to contribute their skills and businesses with open roles in hospitality, engineering, and construction.
At the Amsterdam event, we had meaningful conversations with talented professionals, discussing opportunities in the travel industry and sharing insights on navigating the job market. Beyond recruitment, job fairs like this provide critical career development support, including interpretation services, resume-building workshops, and legal and tax consulting, making it easier for refugees to transition into meaningful employment.
