What does enablement mean for business travellers

History has its place in travel. Destinations exist because of their rich history – think of The Forbidden City, The Pyramids of Giza and Stonehenge. Then consider the value of history to society. The wisdom and insight we gain from the past. That’s why our long history in the travel management space is so critical to adding value to our clientele. Our consultants are experienced and connected, and they have the know-how and networks to keep your travellers safe wherever they are.

What our concierge traveller enablement service includes

Obtaining a visa has become nothing less than a nightmare and business travellers need to plan ahead. Our traveller enablement service is your answer to:

  • fast-track visa applications in emergency situations,
  • making getting-through-travel-formalities easier,
  • booking appointments on behalf of the traveller,
  • arranging vaccinations at home or work,
  • collecting passports,
  • meeting clients at their homes or at the airport to hand-deliver documentation.

One of our Rennies BCD Travel consultants recently recounted an example of client enablement that perfectly captures the essence of how the service translates to assistance on the ground for travellers around the globe. This is her story.

“We had a client who was working in the US and contracted a bacterial infection in his lungs. Initially we anticipated his quick recovery which meant brief flight delays, however, his condition worsened and he was admitted to the ICU. The prognosis seemed grim, and the client decided that it would be best to have his wife with him for support. We received the call on a Saturday morning to advise that I needed to get a US visa for his wife as soon as possible. At that stage, the process of securing a visa and obtaining the visa would take in excess of two weeks. This was time we did not have.

In conjunction with our visa company, we arranged an appointment that Monday morning along with transfers to Johannesburg, an overnight stay, a trip to the Embassy and then straight to the airport. By the Tuesday afternoon his wife had a visa in hand with a ticket, transport arrangements to the US and foreign exchange after which she departed.

We managed to ensure that all the puzzle pieces fell into place whilst managing to keep our traveller calm. Our traveller spent a number of months in the ICU and we remained in contact throughout his recovery. When the time finally came for him to return home, we assisted our insurance broker with the flights for the specialized nurse to travel to Houston to meet and assess him in order to return to South Africa. We coordinated the nurses’ flights with the couple’s flights, and also arranged for the much needed oxygen tank on board the aircraft as he was not yet completely out of the woods. Upon his return to South Africa an ambulance waited for him at OR Tambo and transported him to a local clinic for assessment before he could travel home at long last. She flew out in June, and they returned home in early August. After their return a few weeks later, our consultant received a gift in the mail from them, an hourglass, which Lalita values because she likes to believe in the symbolism of the sands of time and how precious they are.
