BCD M&E 2019 report: What’s trending in meetings and events

What’s inside: regional forecasts; end-to-end attendee journeys; and the value of digitization for events and programs.

Global demand for meetings and events will remain strong globally, but the availability of meeting space could fluctuate by region, according to BCD Meetings & Events’ newly released report, What’s Trending 2019. The digital report is designed to help professionals address meetings and events challenges and opportunities.

“The trends report is a tool that can be used by those in the industry, from planners to executives, to gain insights into what is currently trending and what changes we expect to see in the coming year,” said Scott Graf, BCD M&E global president.

What’s inside?

      • Regional forecasts, including summaries of the current meetings and events climate in each region with an outlook for the year ahead
      • Mini reports on the attendee journey; how digitization is affecting global meetings and events; and how commission reductions are challenging strategic meetings management and programs
      • “Inspire me” destination spotlights for Brazil, Canada, Japan and Slovenia
      • Insights from the BCD Travel 2019 Industry Forecast

Are hotel meetings a thing of the past?

In the report, BCD M&E offers region-specific advice for meetings and events professionals around the globe. Here’s an example of guidance for EMEA buyers:

Think about moving meetings out of hotels into stand-alone venues. Many new hotels in Europe are lower tiers, and they offer little or no meeting space. Meeting organizers looking for something different are being attracted by a wide range of former industrial properties being covering into high-end corporate event venues.

Recommendation: Continue to explore new destinations, which can be excellent value. And, prepare to be flexible on date and location.

“Keeping a pulse on what is happening in meetings and events across the globe is crucial to being champions for our customers,” Graf said. “As leaders in the industry, we value our responsibility to share these insights and actionable items to help navigate the ever-changing M&E landscape.”
