June 5 is World Environment Day (WED). Established by the United Nations in 1972, WED is a reminder to take action for a cleaner, greener and brighter future. We think that’s a perfect fit for a company dedicated to the “next, next generation.”
This year’s WED theme is: Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care. By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same, we will need three planets to sustain our ways of living and consumption. Responsible management of the earth’s natural resources is the most promising strategy for ensuring a healthy future.
What will BCD Travel do to protect our planet?
We’re always committed to providing products and services that promote environmentally sound travel practices, minimize waste and reduce harmful emissions to the air, water and land. And, as always, we’re encouraging our employees to support this important initiative. Some ways to contribute are:
- biking to work
- asking to re-use your plastic cup on your next flight
- planting a tree
- taking public transportation when possible
- learning about the Green Passport, a more earth-friendly way to travel
- offsetting your travel when possible – most airlines provide an option when you book your ticket
One fun way we are showing our support is by joining the #hugatree campaign launched by the World Wildlife Fund. We’ve asked our employees to find a tree, hug it out, and snap a picture – then share it on our internal platform.
We’d love to see you #hugatree. Share your photo on your favorite social network with the hashtag #hugatree. Or, tweet them to us at @bcdtravel with #hugatree and we’ll share them with our followers.
WED is the opportunity for everyone to become agents of change. How will you make your voice heard this year for the environment? Every little bit helps!
