In a wide-ranging interview in The Beat, Louise Miller, BCD Travel’s executive vice president of Business Solutions, Sales and Marketing, explored what’s happening with global consolidation, travel buyers’ increasing focus on hotel spend and payment options and more. The back story: BCD’s customer-focused approach provides insights and industry knowledge that make the travel management company a trusted adviser— and contribute to its client retention rate of more than 95%.

Here are a few excerpts from Miller’s Q&A with The Beat’s Jay Boehmer:

On global program consolidation: “It’s getting less and less common to have more than two or three [travel management companies]. If I look at the top 100 accounts in the world, most of them have 90% of their spend with two or fewer TMCs. That’s a pretty high degree of consolidation,” Miller said.

On client trends: “Companies are putting hotel spend under a microscope, trying to figure out how to get those hotel bookings back into the managed travel program,” Miller said, noting, “The other big opportunity is payment. … The payment automation around is finally, in the past 18 to 24 months, where we need it to be.”
