BTN names Siemens’ Steven Schoen 2017 Travel Manager of the Year

Improved traveler experiences, streamlined processes top list of successes.

Steven Schoen, Siemens Corp. director of mobility services for the Americas, was named the 2017 Travel Manager of the Year by Business Travel News. BTN honored Schoen at a July 18 event that coincided with the Global Business Travel Association conference in Boston.

BTN selected Schoen based on industry nominations. His peers commended him for partnerships with Siemens leadership; with preferred suppliers, including travel management company BCD Travel; and with colleagues. In an article posted after the announcement, BTN said Schoen successfully demonstrated that travel program compliance is more than just following rules—it’s all the decisions travelers and managers make to meet business goals.

“BTN’s 2017 Travel Manager of the Year encapsulates what it means to integrate corporate travel at the highest strategic level within the organization,” BTN Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth West said. “Steven Schoen has won over multiple executive leadership teams, including human resources, with his concept to transform travel management and the traveler experience within Siemens.”

In support of traveler experiences, West noted, Schoen successfully removed pre-trip approvals and significantly reduced paper receipts for expense reporting. He also audited the travel program and reported to Siemens when “best practice” rates and values were not achieved.

In 2013, Schoen received BTN’s Best Practitioner award.
