Several airlines report lifting of U.S. laptop ban

Etihad, Emirates and Turkish Airlines led Mideast airlines in shedding restrictions.

Several Mideast airlines are reporting they’re now exempt from the electronic devices ban imposed by U.S. and U.K. officials in March. Etihad Airlines was the first to announce U.S.-bound passengers can once again bring laptops and other personal electronic devices onboard flights. Days later, Emirates and Turkish Airlines reported that the ban was lifted on their trips to and from the U.S. Qatar Airways, Jordanian Airlines, Kuwait Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines are also exempt.

In March, U.S. and U.K. officials required passengers traveling from some Middle East countries to stow electronic devices larger than a cell phone or smart phone inside their checked luggage. An updated U.S. Homeland Security fact sheet details which Mideast airports are still affected by the laptop ban. The electronics restrictions continue on flights from these airports to the U.S.

Find out how targeted messaging enabled companies to alert affected travelers within minutes of the U.S. policy being published.
