Are you traveling on business during the football world championship, and wondering how to line things up just right so you don’t miss any games? Or will you be traveling to Russia? You will find the best WC tips here.

Football Fan on a Business Trip

Will you be traveling for business during the current Football WC from June 14 to July 15, 2018? Thankfully there are apps! Numerous apps from different providers bundle the schedule, live results, background information or game compilations centrally in one place. You can use these to quickly get yourself up-to-date on the latest happenings in between your meetings. Download the app you need right away. There might be insufficient time between meetings.

If you will be on an airplane during a WC game, check your airline’s inflight offerings in advance: Can you use Wi-Fi on board? Will the game be streamed live? Airlines usually have a broad selection of entertainment programs for their passengers.

Public viewing is also available at some airports during the WC. This will make layovers pass quicker. If the game goes into extra time, this might be the one time you’ll wish your flight was delayed!

In your hotel you can watch all the games comfortably via live-stream on your tablet if they aren’t shown on television at your destination. Plan ahead: You’ll need to check beforehand if the use of Wi-Fi is free at your hotel.

Travel to Russia during the 2018 WC

Entry visas will of course let you in between May 25 and July 25, 2018, but travelers will need to register within 24 hours in the following cities: Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Volgograd, Rostow-on-Don, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Saint Petersburg, Sochi and Saransk.

When you stay in a hotel, the registration is automatic. In other cases, the person or organization extending the invitation will have to do it for you. If you have tickets for a WC game in Russia, you must first apply for a Fan ID.

Since Russia requires people to carry identification, you will have to carry a valid ID with you at all times. It’s best to make a copy that you can access at any time.

If you do not speak any Russian, it would be helpful to download a translation app. You can’t count on everyone speaking English.

There is definitely some risk of terrorism as is the case at any major event. The general recommendation is to exercise caution and be attentive in crowds and while using public transport (especially Metro and bus).

Greater security measures and restrictions by Russian authorities can be expected during the FIFA Football WC 2018 (including prohibition of alcohol at particular locations).
