What are cookies?

Cookies are small text strings that the site visited by the user sends to his/her terminal (usually the browser), where they are stored before being re-transferred to the site itself, at the next visit by the same user. During navigation, the user can also receive cookies on his/her terminal that are sent from different websites or web servers (so-called “third parties”), on which some elements may exist (such as, for example, images, maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) present on the site that the user is visiting.

Cookies, present in users’ browsers, often in very large numbers and sometimes with characteristics of wide temporal persistence, are used for different purposes: execution of computer authentication, monitoring of sessions, storage of information on specific configurations concerning users accessing the server.

Cookies are different from each other based on the purposes pursued by those who use them. In this regard we can identify two macro categories of cookies: technical cookies and profiling cookies.

Technical cookies

Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of carrying out the transfer of information on an electronic communication network, or to the extent strictly necessary to provide the service requested by the user. They are usually installed by the website owner or manager.

Profiling cookies

Profiling cookies are designed to create profiles related to the user and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the latter in the context of surfing the net.

Third-party cookies

Cookies can be installed on the user’s terminal, as well as by the operator of the site that the user is visiting, also by the managers of various sites that install cookies through the first (the so-called “third parties”).
Types of cookies used by the site.

Technical cookies used on the Site are the following: navigation or session cookies, by means of which normal navigation and use of the Site is guaranteed. For example, these cookies allow to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas. The above cookies are necessary for a better use of the site. Although technical cookies do not require the prior consent of the user to be installed and used, they can still be managed by the user through the browser settings (in the section “How to manage cookie settings”).
