BCD Travel names new CEO and COO

John Snyder and Mike Janssen step up to new roles; Joop Drechsel to focus on BCD Group

UTRECHT, Netherlands, April 29, 2014 – BCD Travel today announced that effective May 1, current Global President and Chief Operating Officer John Snyder will become president and CEO of the company. Current Americas President Mike Janssen will be promoted to chief operating officer. The changes retain the cohesive, seasoned team and core structure that have made the travel management company one of the industry’s most innovative players.

The changes follow Joop Drechsel’s decision to step down as chief executive officer of BCD Travel to focus more on his responsibilities as CEO of BCD Group.

These changes are a natural progression for our leaders,” said Drechsel. “This is the team that has led BCD Travel to consistent success in sales, customer retention and expansion, and I believe that John and Mike are uniquely positioned to position the company for its next era of growth.”

2013 was BCD Travel’s sixth consecutive year with over US$1 billion in new air sales awarded, and at 95%, the company’s client-retention rate continued to lead the market. In the middle of the year, BCD Travel acquired Travelocity Business, one of the best-known online travel management companies in North America. The acquisition was the largest in a decade in the corporate travel sector. The company also extended its influence in other driver markets, increasing its ownership in Dubai and signing a joint-venture agreement in Brazil.

“During our eight years as BCD Travel, our reputation for flexible, innovative service has grown tremendously,” said John Snyder.” The next few years will be full of opportunities to build on that success by serving customers in exciting new ways—and we believe these leadership changes will help accelerate our pursuit of these goals.”

BCD Travel recently launched several major new products to help corporate customers and their travelers travel smart and achieve more, including Automated VAT Reclaim, Airfare Price Drop Protection and TripSource®, the company’s proprietary mobile app. The company’s Advito consultancy has also introduced new practices in the areas of traveler engagement and integrated travel and meetings.

Since joining BCD Travel in 1992, Snyder has aggressively driven strategic alignment and performance improvements within the company. In 2013, he was named to the 30th annual list of the Top 25 Most Influential Business Travel Executives, compiled by Business Travel News publisher The BTN Group.

Janssen, a 20-year veteran with BCD Travel, has been instrumental in shaping, strengthening and growing the Americas region and contributing to the company’s overall global growth. Under Janssen’s leadership, the Americas region has been regularly recognized by clients for superior service and partnership.
