We get it. Finding time to stay active can be tough for busy road warriors. Check out these tips for a healthy, fit workday when you’re on the road.

  1. Pack right. Put your workout gear in your luggage first.
  2. Schedule exercise like it’s a meeting. Block fitness time at the beginning or end of the day. Take advantage of the hotel gym or ask your hotel concierge about local running routes.
  3. Respect the stretch. Stretching and yoga can help ease your body and clear your thoughts. If you’re on calls, break up your workday and relieve tension with a few simple stretches. On long-haul flights, stretch regularly and change positions while you’re seated. Walk around the plane, too. Movement may help prevent blood clots when you fly.
  4. Make a plate plan. Dining on the road can be tricky. Eat meals the way you would at home. Manage your portions to avoid feeling dull or bloated from overeating. Coffee, sodas and alcohol may tempt you, but be sure to drink lots of water all day long to offset their effects.
  5. Call it a night. Rest is key. Try to nap on the plane, and then get to bed as soon as possible. Your body will thank you for it, and your clients and colleagues will appreciate your energy, too.
